Un-predicting 2007

I've made up my mind about 2007: this is about as good as it gets. That said, I still lurked around to see what other people thought would happen in 2007. Some are plain annoying, merely stating the obvious. Pat Robertson predicts mass killing -- now that's Nostradamic.

In my lurking I found a blogger hamed Jepoy, who in his blog (designed to look like a Star Trek TNG dashboard) has a picture of himself in a strange superhero costume (Enteng Kabisote anyone?).

Needless to say, his predictions are remarkably troublesome. Not because they are morbid or fantastic (nothing impossible about any of them), but because they exhibit the kind of discrimination that scares me the most -- a prejudice, proudly worn, stitched together with class-based hate.

Among his predictions, he writes:

2. More Filipino idiots will be online, and would be jumping into international message boards showing how stupid they aer [sic], dragging us with them.

7. And the poorest of the poor will contribute largely to the continued growth of our population due to the fact that they have way tooo much time on their hands for their favorite pastime *bleeep* We should consider to export these whiners as human slaves to other countries. We'll definitely earn a lot since our country will have less useless whiners around.

9. More Filipino artist will confess that they are ghey.

In these three statements, he's managed to diss on the illiterate, the poor, and the homosexuals, not to mention showing contempt for his own race. I am troubled not only with the candidness of his bigotry, as he seems unashamed to hide his lack of upbringing, but at the fact that his predictions read more like mono-maniacal chest-thumping than a fearless look into a crystal ball. None of them are staggeringly original. He predicts massive cheating in this years election. Yeah-duh.

This blogger seems to agree with all this:

With twenty million Filipinos going online in 2007, he’s probably right. This is why I’m brutal to n00bs, especially n00bs in Philippine business.

Unpredictably scary people I'd never want to meet. This, or any year.

well, massive cheating in elections? they always exist - only in different amounts. :D

Dude, if n00bs bullied your friends, you'd want to kill them too.

Hey, Mike,

Bullying is an interesting schoolyard analogy. Perhaps I should use it here.

Stop bullying the poor, the gay and the so-called stupid Filipinos.

One reason why I didn't want to attend my high school reunion: I didn't want to see the bullies that made life miserable for too many of my other classmates, the ones that wouldn't show up anyway.

I'd expect more from you than fuel for the fire.

H

P.S. Besides, how bad can a noob bully someone? That must have been really grave and humiliating -- and I don't mean to belittle it at all.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

H, our batch had bullies? Hmmm ... let me think ... ah yes, those basketball dudes right?

J

How did we get to bullying in this entry?

J,

Not necessarily basketball dudes. I think kids can be mean, and sometimes we can tolerate that. But high schoolers? Anyway, really, P650 per head is just too much to pay for all that. I'm holding on to my money until a fund gets rolling -- and pitching all that I can.

Back to Jepoy:

I had a little theory about the hate that this writer had been bullied during his childhood, and now just sows disrespect on his blog.

He hasn't learned a thing from Star Trek.

H

I hate to discriminate but, who is he anyway? i think he does not have this wide idea about the status quo of the country.. i think he was stocked up to his bad past thats why he's so pessimistic...I think he got his thoughts ( so-called predictions) from his brain butt..if he has any.

I think the guy needs psychiatric help. I think he has not recovered yet from his bad past.tsk tsk. i think he is a fan of Jolina Magdangal..birds of the same feather flock together..

mm... i think that happy, the one who's attacking Jepoy right now is the one who has his/her own psychiatric problems.... because you know why? its because you cant even distinguish jokes from reality... get a life..... go out and plant kamote... ^_^

I love Blogger's backlinks. If not for Noel's entry, I wouldn't have found this.

"...he's managed to diss on the illiterate, the poor, and the homos*xuals, not to mention showing contempt for his own race."

"None of them are staggeringly original. He predicts massive cheating in this years election. Yeah-duh."

LOL. LOOOOLOLOLOL!!!!!!111one Haven't it struck you that my post was just humor? So with that, I assume you don't watch MadTV, South Park, Drawn Together or any other shows with black comedy, and off-color humor.

Anyway, you sounded like madam auring when you assumed that I was bullied during my childhood, insulting the homos, bullying the poor and stupid blah blah blah... continue doing that and you'll earn a lot from yearly publication of predictions. :~)

For the record, If i was ever proudly wearing a class-based hate(according to you), I wouldn't have the time to start an 0nline donation drive to help Typhoon Reming's victims. The trouble just to get my PayPal account working in the Philippines to accept donations 0nline is a tedious task that would obliterate all of your statements against me. Which reminds me, where were you during those times when the people you said I dissed where in need? Have you done something to atleast extend your graces to them on those desperate times? I ASSUME no. Assuming is common here anyways?

And when the hell did I diss the homos? What's wrong of assuming that most Pinoy artists will eventually admit they are gay, following the footsteps of Rustom Padilla? Maybe it's you who's got a problem with gay people. Some of your suppressed thoughts from your UP days perhaps?

----------

"He hasn't learned a thing from Star Trek."

How about you? What have you learned? At least I've learned from Star Trek that having discipline and a little humor is the key to end most of our problems.

----------

"has a picture of himself in a strange superhero costume (Enteng Kabisote anyone?)."

ROFLOLOLOLOL!!!1 You can't even identify Vic Sotto and Fantasticman.I wonder if you ever see me, I mean vic sotto in person or in TV and call him jepoy. Coolness.

----------

Atleast IM still here in the Philippines and doing all my business and work here. Not unlike someone who rather stays outside his country and acts like he was somekind of righteous invdividual. And my... learn humor. Okay?

Oh please, your world filter sucks.

----------

@catharsis - don't worry, I already had my dose. Have you? As my friend impbuster once said, our boredom might start world war 3 or something.

----------

To both of you, try to visit the Man-Blog for more "humor".

Jepoy,

Of course I thought you were trying to be funny!

The point is: you're not.

H

truth hurts doesn't it?

Oh come on peeps! If you an@lyze closely Jepoy's post, most of his predictions happen every year. He's just stating the obvious. If you cannot stomach this kind of humor then stay away from stand-up comedians! They'll gonna eat you alive!

@Happy toothpaste

your username is kinda ironic isn't it? Running away from the truth won't change our dying country. I think you're hiding under a rock or something when humor is showered on all humanity.

Jepoy, Siopao,

I'll try to stay on point here: my point is, your takes on poverty, illiteracy, population control, homosexuality -- *they're not funny*.

Where is the humor in "we should consider exporting these whiners as human slaves"? How is that funny?

Maybe if you were wearing your suit and on stage at a comedy club, maybe then I'll get it. Still, I don't think so.

H

oh please... i don't mean to barge in like this but why can't you just accept the fact that you misunderstood the blog?

would it make you any less of a man?

It's funny because it's true.

Hi, Smokers,

Of course I misunderstood the blog -- that's what I mean by saying I don't think he's funny. I don't get how all that's funny.

Mike,

I don't know that it's true, either. But making fun of them the way it's done here isn't funny, and that much is true. When is making fun of the "poorest of the poor" ever funny?

Oh, Jepoy. I read your entry about my entry. Don't flatter yourself. I'm not hatin' on you, I just don't think you're funny.

H

The feeling is mutual. I don't think you're funny, but you are.

I'm not making fun of the poorest of the poor. I'm making fun of the dumbest of the dumb. I diss n00bs regardless of their social standing.

What are you people making foolish things in this blog? It wont help yourself either. I read about HAPPY VERSUS JEPOY lol!!! What I can say is:

"When you're HAPPY, you're not FUNNY, But to JEPOY, sounds like KENGKOY, so thats FUNNY! You people make up your mind! Criticism is dangerous to your health, it contains degradation and madness. So criticize moderately. hahah!! peace!

It's SATIRE.

hey happy toothpaste! check out the comments about your post here: http://jepoyeng.blogspot.com/2007/01/ive-got-hater.html

H,

WHY are you responding to someone named Jepoy? Uh, don't tell me: it's not really his name. He chose it.

Anyone who patrols GMA for "Super Twins" *can't* have a clue about "satire".

On "n00bs". It's ironic how the truly smart and the truly wealthy go out of their way to appreciate that intelligence takes many forms, while middle management riffraff think everyone else and everyone who is p00r is a n00b.

To C:
super twins is not about satire, it's about some non-creative and cheeap imitation of sailormoon that GMA passes as their own original work.

To H:
btw mr. "happy", don't insult us Christians. I saw a link on jepoy's blog.. tsk tsk tsk.

Lampoon,

Not sure you read my entry. Insulting Christians? I was quoting an Archbishop, who said:

"Of course, we grieve for the loss of lives. But for all we know, they're in a much better place now. They're with the Lord now."

And I ask, how does that make their death any more acceptable? Are their tragic deaths -- tragedies that could have easily been avoided -- supposed to be made less tragic, and therefore okay, by the possibility that some of them went to heaven?

I think not.

And certainly not insulting. Unless, of course, one is extremist. Like those wanting to kill Rushdie.

H

You talk too much without making sense.

Guess I have to "assume" too that you hate Christians. I am also "troubled not only with the candidness of your bigotry, as you seem unashamed to hide your lack of upbringing, but at the fact that your statement against Christians read more like mono-maniacal chest-thumping than a fearless look into a crystal ball as you have said about Christians:

"Oh, you righteous, arrogant Christians. People like you make organized religion a lot less sensible.

Posted by: Happy | December 10, 2006 06:59 PM"

I also have a little theory that you were abused and bullied by gays and Christians during your childhood that you sow disrespect on gays and Christians like me on your blog.

Comeon! if the guy is making humor out of his post, then he is actually not making any..or even making sense at all!
**Please, make a joke out of something else. maybe it will be better making a joke about your bad past..or about your experiences in the asylum for lunatics..Peace

Tsk, tigilan nyo na yan. Si Jepoy ghey talaga yan :)). Pero kahit papano gumagamit ng isip =)). hahaha.

Juk lang to ha. Mahirap din lang ako pero di ako tinamaan ng post na yun ni Jepoy dahil kahit papano nagsusumikap naman ako.

you're also not making sense at all catharsis... i'll try to remember the days we were locked at Arkham and i'll try to make a joke about you. :~)

OMG, all the n00bs and idiots are coming out to save the day... hurraah!..... -_-

happy's trying to be serious about this post, but instead of being serious.. he's funny

Happy, I feel for you.
I commend you for calling out explicit bigotry unsuccessfully passed off as 'humor'.

And yes, I am the exasperated "anonymous" commenter on the great Jepoy's blog. *note heavy dripping sarcasm*

Anonymous,

Thanks. Haven't really looked at his blog lately. Never was a reader -- just found it through Mike Abunda's blog.

Was having a discussion about male sexism and homophobia the other night: how it's so systemic that Filipinos too often don't recognize it.

A few nights ago, on a talk show on FM radio, two DJs (one male, one female) were discussing the 10 richest female celebrities for 2006. And, as if he really had nothing better to say, one by one, the male DJ remarked on whether he would "do" this or that woman.

It wouldn't hurt to have a more related, less chauvinistic angle.

H

"Was having a discussion about male s.exism and homophobia the other night: how it's so systemic that Filipinos too often don't recognize it."

I agree. I find myself, pointing (nicely, usually) this out to a lot of people.

On a more personal note, I am sometimes guilty of the same. Coming back home has drawn me into circles where "poor taste" is abundant. Sometimes, I hesitate to impose my own values; other times, I just put it out.

Take, for instance, the way non-Muslim Filipinos discriminate against Muslim Filipinos. (Even dissecting them as "non-Muslim" and "Muslim" is discriminating already.) It's abundant here, and I feel part of the helpless minority when faced by these agents.
