10 Interesting Things From The Past 10 Days
Random nibblers.
1. There's a really good restaurant on the Tagaytay ridge, just pass the multi-colored rotonda if you're headed for the Sta. Rosa SLEX exit. On the left side is the Greek Tavern/Hellenic Tavern, where we had Dolomades and moussaka, among a host of others, at a relatively inexpensive price. Much, much better than Cafe Med. And make sure you say hello to the friendly owner and cook, who is Greek and boasts his own olive plantation on the island of Crete. Fo' real.
2. Got a box set of the X Files, all nine seasons, for Christmas. Blogging will be sporadic.
3. Overheard: Singson had the Abra congressman killed in order to frame the Abra governor. To what end? Well, Singson wants to take the family out of the picture so he can put his own boys in Abra.
4. There's a tunnel, large enough for tanks to pass through, that runs from Camp Aguinaldo to C5. It burrows underneath White Plains and Acropolis.
5. Not all wood floats.
6. A couple of days without the Internet, if your feet are buried in sand and your skin lathered with Coppertone, is not a bad thing at all.
7. There's a polo club (complete with a stable of besocked horses) in Baluarte, Batangas.
8. I've had it with Marie France and Belo Medical's ball-gowned cut-up beauties. This is all Kris' fault. Absolutely no deal.
9. In Los Banos, town of many tragedies from typhoon Milenyo, the Makiling river had swollen to cover more than triple its width in many areas, sweeping away homes and killing more than a dozen people. A boy working in a chicken farm found the water roaring through the property, sweeping off chickens and his beloved pet goat. Swimming through a soup of mud and chicken poop, he tried to rescue his pet goat, only to be bitten by a snake. Stewed in mud and poop and fearing for his life, he walks miles to the farm owner's house for aid, only to find he had to stay the night because all roads leading out of town -- and to the nearest hospital -- were flooded and impassable. The morning arrives and, through a sleepless night, the boy is still breathing, which they soon realize is a sign that the snake was not poisonous. Sad to say, the goat remains at large.
10. There are more calories in an embotido than you might think.

RE#10 - Ugh, why'd you have to go break my heart? On some days all I want is a warm slice of embutido inside a toasted pan de sal with a bit of mayonnaise. Now I have to think of the kind of penance I'd have to make to get my slice of heaven.
Gigi,
I saw firsthand what goes into embotido. And it's not pretty.
Might as well slather it on your ass because that's where it's going to go.

The Greek Tavern in #1 is pretty good - discovered it last year coming home from Batangas.
The polo field in #7 is pretty nice too. Unless you play polo though (which I don't), it gets boring fast.
As for the tunnel in #4, at what point on C5 do they meet? I have a hunch, but I don't remember seeing anything there. I'm still skeptical, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled from now on.
Elber,
Yeah, am looking forward to coming up to Tagaytay this weekend (for a wedding) and passing by The Greek Tavern,
The tunnel: for a while it was rumored that the reason why Nora Aunor's old house in White Plains is sinking (it still is, hence the present tense) is because it's on top of the tunnel.
And, I really don't know where it comes out. They must have closed it off. But wouldn't it be a lot of fun to dig it out and explore it?

I was just in Tagaytay today, or rather, yesterday - also for a wedding. I didn't get to pass by the Greek Tavern though.
As for the tunnel, I'm not sure how much fun it would be to dig out the tunnel, but exploring it would definitely be a blast. Finding out where it is, that's another matter.
