Lab Song

I'm picking up from where my brother left off and his call for entries for the "Near-Perfect Indie Song" (which I thought Firehose's Understanding or GBV's Bulldog Skin fitted the bill. Since I'm a really "sensitive" guy (see Neocolours entry), I thought that I'd hurl this one out:

Admit to it, folks, there's a "love song" out there that really chokes you up. You're not that cool. So here are 30, a first draft, in no particular order:

Comments

Niiice. I may have left out "Distance Between Us" Fra Lippo Lippi, "True" Spandau Ballet and Labuyo's "Tuloy Pa Rin Ako" regrettably. Pero paano na si Claire Marlo? And Julia Fordham's mercy-killing "Invisible War"

Good thing you specified Tuloy Pa Rin by Neocolours and not the Side A live version with the "O... kayo naman!" and the audience singing along... :)

Lover Lay Down by Dave Matthews Band is right up there with In Your Eyes.

Iba yung "Tuloy Pa Rin" nang Neocolours sa "Tuloy Pa Rin Ako" nang Labuyo (see above) which Side A covered ("O sige, kayo naman!").

There's a line in the Neocolours song that goes:

Dahan-dahan pang gumigising at ngayo'y babawi
Muntik na nasanay ako sa 'king pag-iisa
Kaya nang iwanan ang bakas ng kahapon ko.

Lab song talaga.

er..haps is that wowie..the "wowie" i KNow?

Yup, sino pa? ;-)

Agree, somewhat. It strikes parallels between hopelessness with the environment and long lost loves. In fact, this love blooms amidst all that beauty:

Sa piling nang mga bulaklak at halaman,
Doon tayo nagsimula, mangarap at tumula.

The only direct reference to the environment, if I remember correctly, was also to that effect:

Ang mga puno't halaman, ay kabiyak nang ating gunita.
Sa paglipas nang panahon, bakit kailangan din lumisan?

This further emphasizes the parallels. And, to be honest, I'm from Los Banos (where Buklod like to go and write) and I understand how you cannot resist evoking nature's beauty (and man's pillage) and the dillema of "going back".

Makita ang dating kanlungan
Tahanan nang ating tula at pangarap.
Ngayon ay naglaho na, saan hahanapin pa?

Remove the metaphors, and it's just as bittersweet as Cinema Paradiso.

hey happy you might be able to help me. ive been racking my brain trying to remember who the other half of buklod is. its noel and....???
