Orlando Firsts

Spent four days in sunny Orlando, which was baking in 90F heat all weekend. Had a few notable firsts:

1. Swam under the noontime sun. Less crowded, which was necessary to get the most of number 2.

2. Rode a water slide. Since there wasn't a long line, I had fun sliding, climbing, sliding, climbing, sliding. I did all the variations: sitting, lying on my back, sitting then lying on my back, sitting with my arms stretched forward, lying on my back with my arms to the side, well, you get the picture.

3. Saw Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba. I strongly urge anyone to go see the nearest Cirque show in their region, or never miss one that comes your way. It's worth every penny you put into it: gravity-defying acts, awesome art and stage direction and overall one brilliant visionary act after another. Get mid-level seats (not front stage) so you can easily see the trapeze acts and the stage without cramping your neck.

4. Learned how to make an origami lily (and stem) by heart. Now I have a trick to amaze friends!

5. Went to the beach! It was one of those Spring Break type beaches with a few holdovers from, you guessed it, Spring Break. On our way home, the paramedics had to attend to some lady who passed out in one of the bars -- just to complete the whole experience.

Comments

I've been wanting to watch Cirque de Soleil for the longest time. Was planning to catch their new show in Vegas a couple years back, but ticket prices were just too heavy on the budget. Still one of my projects, to watch Cirque de Soleil live.

Btw, you need to teach me how to make an origamy lily (and stem).

Oops... it's Cirque du Soleil. Sorry.

Some things I recommend people do at Disney:

1. Go to the Grand Floridian Hotel lobby (its really nice and you dont have to be a guest to get in) in the afternoon and listen to live classical music playing.

2. Go to the Disney wedding Pavillion (stay outside unless invited inside) and witness a "fairytale wedding". You are guaranteed to catch at least 3 every day during the weekend.

3. Go horseback riding in the wilderness trail.

4. Rent a speedboat at the Grand Floridian Resort (you dont have to be a guest) and explore the seven seas lagoon (its quite big). Its only $20 for 30 minutes last time I was there.

5. Go to the Animal Kingdom Lodge (you dont have to be a guest) and check out the lobby and the safari views. Also try the Grand African Buffet, only $25 - well worth it if you are into exotic cuisines.

6. Go to the Disney Contemporary resort and have dinner at the California Grill. This restaurant is at the highest floor of the hotel and gives you the best night time view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Reservations highly recommended since a lot of people really want to see the fireworks from this view.

7. There is a restaurant within the Living Seas in Epcot that is closed to the public. Its a restaurant within the aquarium giving you spectacular 360 degree views of underwater life.

The only way to see it is to be invited to be invited to a wedding or special function that uses the place as one of its functions.
